It only takes one day to change someone. Whether it's losing someone close to them or perhaps a lifelong injury that scars you, people suffer every single day in the world. That isn't to say that we are immune to such things. Most people think of themselves in a way that portrays them as the hero, the main character, the protagonist. Most people overreach their limits.
You drink one time, you crash a car, you kill someone.
That doesn't make you a hero, doesn't make you a good person, and it especially doesn't make you a good father to your children. When you spend ten years in jail for Manslaughter, your kids grow up without you, and your wife moves on to another man. You think that you could have changed it, maybe, and drown in that regret, turning back to a bottle. I can't turn to that glass again, though. I refuse, I cannot.
I have to be a better father to children who don't even know me.
Despite everything, I have to try to be better...

Dana - "I miss you and the Kids so badly. I know its selfish to think I might have a chance to fix it, but after everything, are you all even still alive? Is Seattle okay? I have to get to you three."
Thomas & Samantha - "Oh, my Sweetest gifts in the world. I'm sorry for how I screwed up, sorry for how I dropped out of your life the way I did. I wanted to do better, be better, but I couldn't. I'm heading for Seattle. I'm gonna make sure you're safe. No matter the cost."
Sally Goodwin - "One of the only other people I've spoken with recently. She's a kind person, someone who wants to fight for injustice the proper way. I envy that. She has a purpose. Part of me, however, wishes she would put that purpose somewhere outside of this cursed town. She has potential to make it far. She can't do that here though."
