Okay, I noticed some OOC chafing, and it's made me reflect and think on the behaviors of the Outlander Enclave that the Worksite 14 group, and other groups, have encountered.

Now understandably, the Combine is always the enemy, but not every person surviving day to day in the Outlands considers the Combine the only enemy and often, in human nature, looks after their own from mild cases to extreme cases.

But I realize now how frustrating that can be, and with foresight, I am opening a TempCheck. I want you guys to be able to interact and not treat this an OOC slog, so please, if you have any grievances or anything you want to air about the Outlander Enclave (Keith Sullivan, Rudy Ondracek, Orjan Svensson) please let us know. Are we being too unrealistically hostile? Are we frustrating? We're open to feedback, and change.

Okay so to explain how I felt in this situation:

I am not saying peeps shouldn't be suspicious or shitty towards Monika. I enjoy RP like that. However, when my FIRST interaction with the rebs is getting an AK pointed at me and demanding 20 thousand questions. Like I get the fact she was introduced at a time Brooklun died, I get that. But I haven't seen a single incident like that where newcomers who were HEAVILY ARMED (Banwell comes to mind) were immediately treated as a target after people even died.

It felt oocly pushed, and just there to kinda start drama for artificial reasons. Like I'm not wanting to say "ohhhh dont be mean or whatever to my epic rebel oc!!!!" but like maybe just shoo me off or something instead of literally threatening to PK.

Especially when I feel a lotta mingery and shit gets thrown my direction before this stuff even happened.

Like again I'm not trying to be shitty here its just again I come from a place where I've been constantly OOCLY targeted on other servers and this is just instantly hitting red flags and I'm not really in the mood to entertain shit if thats gonna be what happens again.

Also before people say "no plans of PK were there" pointing a gun at her on multiple ocassions and lines like "You're digging your grave" and "calling a vote to shoot her" seem VERY intentional for PK.

To my knowledge, Velicia's character (Keith) had interacted with your character and she gave off red flags that he even communicated over the radio at the time, telling us not to allow you into the camp, i almost said something like 'you need to get out' ICly myself even, but i figured my character may not have recognized you with the hat and glasses on compared to the other day, even though you were wearing the camo setup still

edit: the interaction im talking about was yesterday i believe, when you were standing outside the base

Regardless of any OOC disputes I think conflict, especially infighting is great. My biggest fear was there actually being no tension between characters. If there are genuine red flags of targeting a player for no justified reason then by all means that should be resolved. I cannot comment on the current situation due to not being all that present during the aftermath, but hopefully my two cents here means anything.

Normally this character conflict would be natural and expected for a faction like the RPF (this server's CCA) or an opposing camp with enough support. However since the majority of the latter faction went rogue this then left a huge vacuum for player conflict. This void was filled by event characters such as the OTF and the story antagonists, but it is ultimately reliant on volunteers. Having genuine character groups at odds with each other instead of one large camp would do a lot in terms of storytelling and something for players to do. Ultimately this would reduce the need for admins to storyboard everything and encourage people to hop on not just for the sake of an event (which I think compared to ZRP, this server has greatly improved on).

Not saying there has not been personal disputes or grudges between characters beforehand, because believe me there has and I commend people for that. Sam and Mark never saw eye to eye due to his view against RPF rogues. Polybius and Luke are becoming more estranged by their stances on dealing with the Shah, and I also believe the wall situation led to some arguments as well. Personally had no ill will or malice for any of the people I had IC feuds or differences with, and I hope this is the case for them as well.

ZRP had a missed opportunity to do this a while ago that you only realize in hindsight. First Responders such as the Police, EMTs and Fire Department could have made for decent enough splits, although naturally in a Zombie apocalypse everyone teams up. However, at some point in the server another group, the Prisoners were introduced. That whole arc was honestly quite fun but a lot of magic tricks with animated props, vehicles and surprise attacks had to do the heavy lifting to make it work. Now, if you imagine the Prisoners as their own separate group of non-event player survivors you would then immediately spice things up. Event volunteers, npcs and the occasional villain is fine but eventually you will need two sides to the story to drive spontaneous action.

Hopefully any beefs can be quashed but I do sincerely hope this leads to some action down the line.

Since i'm the main chaff your character is having problems with I will list out two things. The first list will be ooc. The second will be icly.

  1. To my knowledge no one has any desire to PK your character for any ooc reasons.
  2. You are a wonderful person to roleplay with and every experience i've had with you off of the character Monika has been wonderful and I've enjoyed every second of it.

  1. Keith's first interaction with you was just a few minutes after they loss Brooklyn.
  2. Brooklyn mentioned several times before hand that something had the cops riled up and she didn't know why (This was not you ICLY or OOCLY it was just flavor text to make the experience better.)
  3. When we first saw you he held you at gunpoint because of the two previous points.
  4. When held at gun point your character was antagonistic, haughty, and just being a 'Nuh-uh' kind of attitude.
  5. When Demitra made Keith lower his gun and you started chatting your characters response to the clothes they wore was "I bashed a characters head in with a rock for it.) When both Keith and Demitra were off put by this Demitra tried to lighten the mood with "Of course, it was self defense" which Monika answered "I do not know, maybe, I think."
  6. Keith's mind set was instantly set to. "Didn't react to a weapon drawn on her, mentioned having friends in the area, admitted to murder, wasn't sure as to if what she did WAS or WAS NOT self defense."
  7. Keith from that point on was set on denying you entry: @Vecilea was more than happy to have Monika come into the group after a little bit of time since their first interaction was very off putting.
  8. Keith then let his people know, and when awaking from an injury where his camp location was leaked he was enraged with several people before he spotted Monika walking around the very camp he barred her from.
  9. He pulled his gun in an attempt to scare her out of camp.
  10. She then said "I'm on speaker retard." Which he was told by Sven through a whisper in Swedish.
  11. Then over the radio Jackal was also being antagonistic and goading the entire situation.
  12. Keith then told her "You're making this not killing you thing much harder." (I hate to use the "it's what my character would do durr' defense but realistically Keith ABSOLUETLY would have killed her then and there but OOCLY I was trying my hardest to let your character find a peaceful way out)

There is no ill will from my end. There is no targeting being done. Every other character who interacted with you in that way was told only in character and only reacted IN character.

I've noticed as well that most of the content on this server is GM/Admin run, compared to TNB's more PvP interactions. It's tough because while someone always loses something on the PvP interactions and usually not by choice, they're often just so much more interesting and dynamic when everyone involved in them is realistic and fair. No shade at all to how things are often done here, I really enjoy the story-led narrative and think events (especially this iteration) have been held with interesting and challenging 'enemies' that can be a real threat and wish more people could experience it, but dealing with another player who wants something just as much as you do makes everything much more tense IMO

I wish I could've done more with RPF. I think I mentioned it prior about wanting to make it a full faction if the players were there but they simply were not.

Even now there's like...4~ cops that still remain? (@Wizard @BoB (Best of Boxes) @Smarmy @Eorvek ) that I can think of off the top of my head. I would love for there to be more PvP stuff but it's really hard...Maybe if we continue to grow we can get something cooked up! Which would also help with situations like this to make it feel far less shoe-horned and at each others throats too.

Again Im not against people having infighting, hell I INTEND for Monika to be an antagonist. However I feel instantly restricted and just pushed away OOCly when its just instantly told to fuck off and threatened when I havent flat out started fights or anything yet or tried anything overt. It, again, gives me TnB PTSD where people will just shut down ideas instantly or have OOC agendas to just fuck over stuff.

Really the thing Im getting at here is I felt like y'all were gonna just PK her for no reason and I had no indication to the contrary until I mentioned issue.

Was honestly quite tempted to organize a group of players to form a sort of opposition or with different motives from the Worksite 14 survivors myself but I am relieved to see something like that already taking shape. Whatever happens, I would not let any grievances dissuade you guys from testing the waters with it.

With the RPF I still think there is a good chance if apps were re-opened with the understanding that the opportunity to go rogue elapsed during the camp breakout (maybe subject to some exceptions?). I imagine there are people who remain that would not mind hoping on a cop with a few others to start a small skirmish.

If it works it works, if it does not then there is no real loss either.

Which is what Im doing with Monika, but I wanted things to be organic and done as a result more of my actions being overtly hostile later on. Rather than me feeling threatened of a PK within my second night of even playing the character

RPF stuff isn't closed. I still try to ping people in the channel itself to get them on for conflicts but I don't really get anyone.

Also speaking of RPF I made 499 to do stuff on it but nothing ever happens, i'd be down to organize on that end as a PROPER antagonist force but again Im like.... Hesitant to even do stuff. Because again while I apologize if I came across as accusing people here it still felt very heavy of tones I got from other servers where I've been treated poorly before.

Sure it's unfair to kinda assume that, but at the same time its happened so much I get sussed easily

I like playing here, a lot. I wouldnt have donated heavily or got more head models on the tnb stuff for us to fuck around with if that wasnt the case. And I dont want people to think Im being shitty here.

I just, again, dont wanna feel like im gonna just randomly get PK'd and not even be able to do stuff when im putting effort in.

Playing here has made me realize I fuckin' hate PVP because most people are so afraid to take Ls in writing it just turns into pure toxicity more often than not. I do think more player driven antagonists is a good thing though, as long as it doesn't turn into the above where nobody wants to 'lose' and it just brews frustration. I think that's a large issue with servers like HL2 because the dynamic is so focused around combine vs rebels.

Not trying to discredit your opinions but that's just my two cents from my experience over the past few years especially writing off of gmod. Things are more fun when people largely work together to make it enjoyable for everyone.

Yeah, ideally tho and when there is no toxicity, PVP will always reign supreme to me as the conflict and tension are organically there. I've literally been shaking IRL during past encounters in PVP in a way that I usually don't in events. I always try to play to lose and to let it be known that my characters are always PKable with no auths required (usually to my detriment as I always find it tough to start anew). I've always thought PK auths are silly af outside of something like OOCly targeting someone obviously, not that it's really an issue here as it's mostly event characters we fight (though I will be shooting Faith in the back of the head randomly soon). PK auths almost grant like a safety net to people that I find kind of lame and it probably holds back some dramatic stuff from happening sometimes because they don't want to deal with the resulting drama OOCly by killing them

Or someone who just won't take a justified PK because they write in bad faith. In all my years of RPing I've only really had to do this once. If there's clear OOC motivation then it's easy enough to overturn, usually that becomes pretty obvious with just a bit of reading into the situation.

Yeah, I somewhat agree. I think this community is far more mature and willing to work together from something greater. I take great pride in knowing that you guys are willing to sacrifice your long term characters for the greater narrative and the enjoyment of everyone. I'm currently mulling over some ideas that could fix this in my head, but they're not anything concrete until I talk to the rest of staff. Overall, I think we're a much less toxic community. I feel as if PK auths are a safety barrier to prevent drama, but they can also reduce story tension. After reading this thread I'm going to toss around ideas for improving this with staff.

I think we're in a much more amicable place in this community the the other one where the majority of us come from. It only makes sense we make minor adjustments.

My immediate solution to the community would be I would honestly support a player run thread where you guys can list your own personalized addendums ontop of the basic PK rules to how you wish to give consent to how you PK your characters. It's going to be far easier to run antagonist, assholes, or other abrasive characters if people have a place to directly list their intentions on an OOC level to how easily they want their characters want to be PKed. THIS WOULDN'T MEAN YOU CAN SKIRT AROUND THE BASIC PK RULES WE CURRENTLY HAVE. IT WOULD BE AN ADDENDUM AND YOU CAN STILL BE PKed BY THOSE MEANS AS WELL.

Normally this character conflict would be natural and expected for a faction like the RPF (this server's CCA) or an opposing camp with enough support. However since the majority of the latter faction went rogue this then left a huge vacuum for player conflict. I was worried something like this might happen from the start of the iteration. I intentionally designed my character to be an internal antagonist/asshole, but by luck of the dice it didn't end that way. I seemed to have only met characters who were accepting of her stranger tendencies and it changed her from being a throwaway plot driver into something greater. I fully expected someone to shoot her before the camp was over. For some reason it simply didn't end up with death. While I want to be clear I still need to talk with the rest of staff over some of my ideas reading this has validated my concerns.

I'm exceedingly happy that everyone has adapted to the AWS so quickly, and it's making my life a lot easier now that people do things without direct admin intervention or approval. ZRP was immensely draining and I nearly didn't come back for HL2 because of it. I actually get to play a character, and I also get to enjoy them rather than feeling like they're a chore (I hate Amy Schwars lmao Mickee begged me to make a character). Please, continue adding to the story and taking things how you want it. We're always willing to make last minute changes and additions to longer term stories merely because of some things you guys decided on a whim through IC means.

I 100% want to give you guys the chance to also play villains in the story too. I find HL2 so much more enjoyable given how much less overhead I have to do. You're matching my ideas completely on the problem of storyboard grind.

As of now I want to make it clear we're far more permissible to letting you guys do more than other communities. For example, the antlions on the 626 raid was totally unknown to use until the very last minute. It was a "fuck it, they want it so they get it," mentality. The pheromone pod was completely unplanned, and it was unforseen that you guys would use it for something so whacky and crazy. Seeing the hunter get mauled to death by antlions was fucking awesome.

If you guys want to make your own rebel focused or even CCA/Combine adjacent, or even CCA/Combine antagonists I'm completely willing to hear out your ideas. You don't even need to post them in the auth threads. You can send me a grammar lacking garbled mess and I'll still likely approve you doing it if it's nothing exceedingly dramatic. I'll give you whatever scripts, guns, custom items, and whatever you need to accomplish these goals. I would just prefer you keep some facts in mind given we're a free narrative setting that follow the group itself.

- Whever the main group goes might not be accomodating to your character. If the super majority of players want to go to a map where there's 0 RPF you simply won't get to play RPF. You should be prepared for that. It's just an unfortuante consequence of letting you guys go wherever you want in the vast world.

- Be as charitable as you can with being PKed. I don't think it's fair the idea you created is ended in a single pull of the trigger. Just accept that as an antagonist to the large super majority of the playerbase you're most likely to end up dead. We had that as a disclaimer on the CCA applications for that reason. It's astounding that no cops got PKed during the revolt.

Hopefully after posting this it elucidates that I want you guys to be atangonists and I'll help you. I want to be super clear about something. Not a single person has applied for /ev. I can assure you the vast majority of you I would put a +1 instantly in your auth thread. You're my ideal playerbase and I want you to continue to impress, and outshine my expectations in novel and enjoyable ways.
