Yeah, ideally tho and when there is no toxicity, PVP will always reign supreme to me as the conflict and tension are organically there. I've literally been shaking IRL during past encounters in PVP in a way that I usually don't in events. I always try to play to lose and to let it be known that my characters are always PKable with no auths required (usually to my detriment as I always find it tough to start anew). I've always thought PK auths are silly af outside of something like OOCly targeting someone obviously, not that it's really an issue here as it's mostly event characters we fight (though I will be shooting Faith in the back of the head randomly soon). PK auths almost grant like a safety net to people that I find kind of lame and it probably holds back some dramatic stuff from happening sometimes because they don't want to deal with the resulting drama OOCly by killing them
Yeah, I somewhat agree. I think this community is far more mature and willing to work together from something greater. I take great pride in knowing that you guys are willing to sacrifice your long term characters for the greater narrative and the enjoyment of everyone. I'm currently mulling over some ideas that could fix this in my head, but they're not anything concrete until I talk to the rest of staff. Overall, I think we're a much less toxic community. I feel as if PK auths are a safety barrier to prevent drama, but they can also reduce story tension. After reading this thread I'm going to toss around ideas for improving this with staff.
I think we're in a much more amicable place in this community the the other one where the majority of us come from. It only makes sense we make minor adjustments.
My immediate solution to the community would be I would honestly support a player run thread where you guys can list your own personalized addendums ontop of the basic PK rules to how you wish to give consent to how you PK your characters. It's going to be far easier to run antagonist, assholes, or other abrasive characters if people have a place to directly list their intentions on an OOC level to how easily they want their characters want to be PKed.
THIS WOULDN'T MEAN YOU CAN SKIRT AROUND THE BASIC PK RULES WE CURRENTLY HAVE. IT WOULD BE AN ADDENDUM AND YOU CAN STILL BE PKed BY THOSE MEANS AS WELL.
Normally this character conflict would be natural and expected for a faction like the RPF (this server's CCA) or an opposing camp with enough support. However since the majority of the latter faction went rogue this then left a huge vacuum for player conflict. This void was filled by event characters such as the OTF and the story antagonists, but it is ultimately reliant on volunteers. Having genuine character groups at odds with each other instead of one large camp would do a lot in terms of storytelling and something for players to do. Ultimately this would reduce the need for admins to storyboard everything and encourage people to hop on not just for the sake of an event (which I think compared to ZRP, this server has greatly improved on).
I was worried something like this might happen from the start of the iteration. I intentionally designed my character to be an internal antagonist/asshole, but by luck of the dice it didn't end that way. I seemed to have only met characters who were accepting of her stranger tendencies and it changed her from being a throwaway plot driver into something greater. I fully expected someone to shoot her before the camp was over. For some reason it simply didn't end up with death. While I want to be clear I still need to talk with the rest of staff over some of my ideas reading this has validated my concerns.
I'm exceedingly happy that everyone has adapted to the AWS so quickly, and it's making my life a lot easier now that people do things without direct admin intervention or approval. ZRP was immensely draining and I nearly didn't come back for HL2 because of it. I actually get to play a character, and I also get to enjoy them rather than feeling like they're a chore (I hate Amy Schwars lmao Mickee begged me to make a character). Please, continue adding to the story and taking things how you want it. We're always willing to make last minute changes and additions to longer term stories merely because of some things you guys decided on a whim through IC means.
I 100% want to give you guys the chance to also play villains in the story too. I find HL2 so much more enjoyable given how much less overhead I have to do. You're matching my ideas completely on the problem of storyboard grind.
As of now I want to make it clear we're far more permissible to letting you guys do more than other communities. For example, the antlions on the 626 raid was totally unknown to use until the very last minute. It was a "fuck it, they want it so they get it," mentality. The pheromone pod was completely unplanned, and it was unforseen that you guys would use it for something so whacky and crazy. Seeing the hunter get mauled to death by antlions was fucking awesome.
If you guys want to make your own rebel focused or even CCA/Combine adjacent, or even CCA/Combine antagonists I'm completely willing to hear out your ideas. You don't even need to post them in the auth threads. You can send me a grammar lacking garbled mess and I'll still likely approve you doing it if it's nothing exceedingly dramatic. I'll give you whatever scripts, guns, custom items, and whatever you need to accomplish these goals. I would just prefer you keep some facts in mind given we're a free narrative setting that follow the group itself.
- Whever the main group goes might not be accomodating to your character. If the super majority of players want to go to a map where there's 0 RPF you simply won't get to play RPF. You should be prepared for that. It's just an unfortuante consequence of letting you guys go wherever you want in the vast world.
- Be as charitable as you can with being PKed. I don't think it's fair the idea you created is ended in a single pull of the trigger. Just accept that as an antagonist to the large super majority of the playerbase you're most likely to end up dead. We had that as a disclaimer on the CCA applications for that reason. It's astounding that no cops got PKed during the revolt.
Hopefully after posting this it elucidates that I want you guys to be atangonists and I'll help you. I want to be super clear about something.
Not a single person has applied for /ev. I can assure you the vast majority of you I would put a +1 instantly in your auth thread. You're my ideal playerbase and I want you to continue to impress, and outshine my expectations in novel and enjoyable ways.
