Yesterday marked the first week of the server and I'm digging for some feedback!

Let us know how it all went and what you've enjoyed or what you feel like has fallen short.

wasnt here for most of it but this revolt was a great time to introduce my character i think - cant wait to see what is in store ahead

First week was great! The only thing that was in short supply was the DRIP after Ash Sterling was abducted by aliens on day one

Enjoyed the tense atmosphere and build up as well as how detestable the Combine behaved up until the escape. The encounter with the synth vortigaunt in particular really stuck with me as I thought it was initially the slave vort that survived the train crash. Even though it turned out to be another vort who went absent for a bit, introducing intrigue is beneficial to keeping people hooked as to what happens next. The encounters were also fairly balanced, you are never in a completely unwinnable situation and most of the time the outcome is not that severe so you are encouraged to take a risk now and again which is good.

I only had one minor issue involving some NPCs being spawned without warning to swarm my character for being in the wrong place or perhaps interacting with something far too early? I know this issue got sorted but I think it would be a good thing to communicate ahead of time to a player if they are putting themselves at risk, even just an emote suffices. I may have missed out on an event message about the other parts of the tunnels being infested but it might not be clear to everybody.

Still I think the opening did a good job and I hope that the Combine hits back hard so we can see a playable rival faction beyond the now rogue RPF.

While I have only had a good solid two active sessions on the server (both of which ended up in me dead :sneaky:), I'd honestly say overall I have had a good experience. I will be straight in saying that I had little motivation to play another HL2 server full stop but was talked into giving it a shot, and I'm glad I did.

Going forward, given we are now out of the "city" phase of the server... before I get onto my feedback for the week (as short as it will be).
  • What are the plans going forward for item acquisition (minor items like scarves, hats etc etc... more major like vests, guns)?
  • In terms of narrative, can we have some form of primer posted to give us a brief idea of what to expect (spoiler free)?
  • I understand there has been a push to move the server away from event-based, to hop on and roleplay and do things (though I am not sure how successful this has been given my timezone), what sort of systems and allowances can we expect to encourage this?
  • Is there anything the play*rs can do to help other than hopping on? Certain characters, rival factions, xenians, galungas?
Overall, the experience was good. The events I witnessed were to the point and without filler - the climax at the end was unexpected, and I'm upset @Tyrex wasn't walked out as a Stalker. Can't believe the SiC would lie to us. Damn shame. Real shame.

1) Looting system. I’ll be tossing together some looting pools to give out clothing and other things so you guys can get the ball rolling on trading and shit. Vests themselves will be bought/found during events though.
2) Sure! I’ll work on that shortly.
3) The AWS will be our attempt to make things player motivated. We’ll be placing goals around the map for you all to hit and go at in your own time rather than set event schedules. The loot system will also give merit to that too.
4) Xenian applications were opened yesterday and OTF/OSF applications will be posted today.

To my knowledge, this was more 'an admin being silly' than trying to deter you. We spoke about it because we were all in VC at the time.

We don't go shutting people down like that unless it's something specific we have plans for, such as specific looting locations on ZRP, and even then, we'd be a bit more tactful than just spawning NPCs on your head.

Yeah I was just confused and assumed it was a case of straying too far from the other players due to the exact timing of the response and spawning. But I understand if it was just a one off goof up were nobody really meant anything by it. Overall I think it worked out in the end and there were instances where I'd find some left over NPCs, presume they were IC and get a small amount of roleplay out of it.
