What is this?
Our next server.
I will get what information I am sure is most interesting out first before I dive into what S:NB is and what we plan to do.
HL2:MoF was always meant to be a shorter story. During planning it was mentioned a few times that I wanted a narrative arc to play out so it can always be remembered in a better light instead of dragging on and on. The story isn't over next week however, with MoF having its equal final story arc that'll tie things up there before we kick off the next part of our future. Please do read up with that announcement before we commence here, as it'll explain some things and give a much better idea.
Now! What is Stalker: New Blood? Well it's our next server, of course. Stalker was always a thing that itched itself in the back of my mind and I always pushed it off with the idea that UI work will be far too much and it'll impede progress and draw things out for you guys...And that would've been true a few months ago, but ever since I started learning how UI's functioned in Gmod and Eternity as a whole I have been able to make substantial work towards not just Stalker but other personal projects, so here we are!
What is the premise?
TBD, 2009.
The world has been freshly exposed to the second Chernobyl Accident. Several years have passed since the incident and it has left a sudden unexplored hole on Earth. A quarantined sphere that burned itself onto an area long desecrated beneath the Soviet Union's incompetence decades prior...This sphere spawned intriguing new developments in the Science field. Editing of genetics within organic materials, changing of physics and chemistry that leaves unexplainable anomalies that dot itself amongst the affected area.
This area was promptly labeled the zone and cut off from the public. Security went from light patrols to full on armored troops and the quick foundation of a massive concrete curtain that seemed to block off the interior from the rest of the world. Chernobyl vanished, not to nature...But instead to another kind of grow. The Zone rapidly grew to be an area that attracted tourists and explorers, both desperate for adventure and adrenaline as a sudden vacuum of desire was opened in hearts around the globe. There was not an end to the desperate ache that people held for the area.
And then a hole appeared in the wall...And the Zone was finally cracked open. Dozens of men rushed into the opening and flooded the zone. Taking up shop in maintenance tunnels, villages, warehouses, and railyards as the zone only flooded to larger sizes due to the corrupt border guards and the damaged structure of the wall...But why?
Why were these people rushing into a hostile environment? Why were people so obsessed with this sudden development...What made Stalkers tick. Abandoning their lives and homes in search of some fantasy that was still yet to be proven, families left behind confused and wondering a singular thought within their heads as their loved ones departed and listened to the call of riches and legacy.
Who on Earth would settle in The Zone?
What to expect here?
An entirely different atmosphere and story. Unlike Virulent and MoF we want to take a new approach here at Stalker, which is that we want to promote heavy player stories. A much more personal approach that'll leave you feeling as if you're the main character. Some of this was given leeway on HL and ZRP both however it was never fully utilized and put to work. We missed out big time, and we wish to expand things much further. New Blood will be a fresh take on a setting that doesn't seem to get much love.
What about anomalies, obstacles, and artifacts? Traders?!
Some of these things will appear. It is a process I am undertaking in which I will be remaking all Anomalies to function in their own way instead of plugging a mod in and going! Here I will be attempting to completely make things home brew and get creative to give it a truly unique feel that'll ooze a new take. It'll take a bit longer, but I promise the wait won't be long at all.
What about the economy?
We already have sheets crafted thanks to the current MoF team that'll be put into consideration when making New Bloods, ontop of an entirely new system that'll help bring up the idea of maintenance for your gear and other things...The nice thing? None of this will take you days to acquire. Just log on every now and then and I guarantee your goals will be easily met. We do not want to promote the grind idea with this server and would rather people just have fun and experience the best parts of what a Stalker universe can offer.
And factions?
Well we can't really give that all away but applications for the current exposed factions can be applied for here!
What about S2RP rules and general RP laws?
Much of this will be discussed in its own thread but I will give a general rundown here for you now. Stalker: New Blood will be loose. Robbing, trapping, puzzle solving, etc. Stalker will allow people to play how they want to and make their own story. With Virulent and MoF it made it practically impossible to play a morally grey or antagonistic character...And here? We're breaking that.
The short answer for this is to just wait and see what we got cooking up in regards to this all
And script features?
ALOT...Holy fuck ALOT. For now I'll show the PDA (That isnt entirely finished but its getting there!) That will be utilized here.
This PDA will serve as a place for general information on characters that can almost work as a character profile in itself. It'll display your set ref photo, your name, and a nickname that you'll set that'll appear where the CID line is. It's a bit more crude than what's seen but the goal here was to provide something that's new and unique, so please bare with me.
Below is a general line that'll display characters. If you click upon their name it'll display the profile as seen above. The Messages and Map buttons are already here...And boy do I gotta show it off.
An above head minimap that is adjustable. It is still VERY bare bones as I struggled to even get to this point, but I plan to upgrade this and truly put it to use, whom of which will be shown here on the forums and Discord as I progress.
And this is just a TASTE of what is to come!
- New clothing!
- Updates to weapon recoil and damage!
- Armor and clothing condition
- The H.A.R.S.H system
- Cut down and simple version of a system that'll work like Stormfox.
- Fully original artifact hunting system
- Improved UI menu's
- Improved Trader experience.
- And much, much, MUCH more.
