Laveau High Football Team Secures Bus Trip to State Championships
by Lando Griffith
Excitement is running high at Laveau High School after the school finalized travel arrangements for its football team’s upcoming trip to the state championships. The team, fresh off a nail-biting playoff victory last Friday, will be heading to Baton Rouge later this week aboard two charter buses provided by a local sponsor. Students, staff, and families gathered on campus Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the milestone, with many describing it as a “dream come true” for the players and their supporters.
Principal Marjorie Cormier called the achievement a landmark moment for the school. “This is more than just a game—it’s history,” Cormier said. “Since Laveau High opened its doors in 1999, our students and coaches have worked tirelessly to build a program that reflects the heart of our community. Reaching state for the first time is an incredible accomplishment, and we could not be prouder of our athletes. We look forward to cheering them on as they represent us on the biggest stage.”

Mystery Illness Cases Rise Across Gulf Coast — Officials Urge Caution but Dismiss Panic
by Denise Ricketts
Hospitals across the Gulf Coast, including several in New Orleans, have reported a modest uptick in patients presenting with what physicians describe as “persistent flu-like symptoms.” Cases have been noted from Baton Rouge to Mobile, with most patients complaining of high fever, chills, and unusual fatigue. Emergency rooms remain open and operating as normal, though some staff have described an “unseasonal” volume of walk-ins over the past week.
In a press release Thursday morning, Dr. Elaine Parker, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, acknowledged the rise but cautioned against alarm. “We are aware of these reports and are monitoring the situation closely,” Parker said. “At this time, there is no evidence of a novel virus or cause for public concern. Seasonal variations in respiratory illness are expected, and the public should continue to follow normal health precautions.”

NOPD Seeks Assistance in Identifying Suspects Linked to Cartel Raid
by Martin Herald
The New Orleans Police Department is seeking public assistance in identifying two men believed to be involved in a violent raid on a suspected cartel safehouse late Tuesday evening. Witnesses described the pair as middle-aged males: one with blonde hair worn in a clean middle part, and another with dark, curly hair who was seen smoking a cigarette. Both men fled the scene before officers arrived, leaving several cartel associates injured and property extensively damaged.
Police Chief Raymond Duval condemned the actions in a statement Wednesday morning. “While we understand the public’s frustration with organized crime, vigilantism is not the answer,” Duval said. “Taking matters into their own hands only emboldens these criminal organizations, creating more violence for our citizens. We urge these individuals, or anyone with knowledge of their identities, to come forward immediately.”
