Welcome to Hoquiam, Washington
The school year has come to a close within the town of Hoquiam. The 1978-1979 class finally released onto the open world and prepared for what was before them. It was a time to celebrate, especially with a close win for the Grizzlies football team. The state title taken away to the small waterfront town and held to high regard. With this big end of school season the Mayor of the smaller town decided that such an eventful start deserved a equally as large halfway point. With his claim for celebration being a totally new festival started to work in tandem with July 4th itself. A large streetside night of wonder.
The town itself wasn't much to look at. Pretty, yes, however the entire town was practically ancient and served as one of the earlier settlements in the western area. With the high school itself showing its age as it sits roughly at 100 years old, and the ports being just as old too. This town lives and breathes the old world that it once grew within its streets, nearly every aspect having some sort of historical story to it.
Hoquiam held its own bit of whimsical wonder towards it, especially in these trying times.
What to expect within the town of Hoquiam?
Normal and quiet life. With a tiny population despite the luxurious and gorgeous location this small town practically everyone knew each other. It was a common happening to run into someone when just driving down to the local General Store or simply walking down the street. It was one of those towns that served as a prison to some, but a utopia to everyone else. With its embedded streets and just a short drive away from the neighboring Aberdeen the career choices here were quite expansive, from its original inception to modern day the waters boasted a large amount of jobs for the local populace to indulge themselves within...You included. That be the logging industry, fishing, shipping, or simple minimum wage jobs that sprinkle itself through the mom and pop shops of the area.
Hoquiam is a perfect little place to settle and an even better place to stop in when traveling down the sprawling Pacific coast of the Western United States. It has its draws, those draws that seemed to pull you in like an unknown center of gravity. Were you from here? Passing through? Or planning to plant the seeds of a family within the confines of this small urban center. Whatever it may be the town will welcome you all the same, as it has been doing for centuries.
What is the current state of this world?
With the Alternative-History approach we are taking upon this era we must first go back to 1945. With soured relations near the end of the war due to the arrival of American soldiers to Berlin first it left the entire ordeal between the Soviets and Allied troops in a hostile and rivaled stream of contention. The Soviets felt as if they should've been the ones giving the final blows to Nazi Germany...And envied the Allies for arriving their first...But how? With that it begins with the Battle of the Bulge, whom of which never occurred within this timeline of ours. Such a small battle was pivotal in the momentum given as American and Allied troops steamrolled the Germans across the Rhine and towards their own prideful city of Berlin.
This was one of many changes. Changes that altered the course and split it off from what we considered normal. Instead of the Soviet Union and its Communist ways declining it instead only grew in size and power. Within the 40's still another failure by the Western forces reared its head upon the world. With the much needed aid towards Berlin and the ambitions placed by the servicemen and woman of the Western world a new idea was hatched to present the desperately needed aid...This started the Berlin airlift. With shoddy planning and even more shoddy choice of delivery the first and only endeavor ended in a total miss of supplies planted and a heavily damaged plane within the fields of Germany. Such a failure stained the Western world, especially once the pilots of the aircraft were returned entirely unharmed by the Eastern forces. A show of mercy brought a whole new light towards the previously petrifying Communist forces...It was exactly what the Western forces did not want--and exactly what the Eastern forces wanted.
It did not stop either. The Korean war turned to be a total bust with the US forces having to practically carry everything on its own back. A swift and decisive Northern victory left a unified peninsula under a singular ideology...Communism. The Western world was failing and it only grew worse...With the death of JFK and the Vietnam war being overall entirely hostile to the American populace the world was slowly forced to succumb to the larger super power on the horizon. West Berlin was gifted to the Soviet Union in the summer of 1972. A total treaty to slowly de-escalate the current nuclear race...Such things allowed less sight upon Cuba, the gift of Western Berlin, and the ability to allow Vietnam to choose its future.
All of these decisions held motives unknown to the Western world.
All three of these moves prepared the Eastern bloc for what was to come...What was to unfold in the Summer of 1979.
What is the limits?
Obviously firearms lol. A quick and easy auth guide will be put below this for you to slide into this section of the forums here. The limits for applications here will extend to law enforcement too...And only police. You will be able to freely create a paramedic and fire fighter upon joining however to become a police officer you will require an application.
With a newly blossoming branch of trust you will NOT NEED TO APPLY FOR THE BACKSTORY OF MILITARY EXPERIENCE. This means you can play a WW1 vet, a WW2 vet, Korea...Vietnam, etc. You can have some serious open ended experiences here that'll allow you to truly explore your character in this SFS.
