What is an S.F.S?
S.F.S, or Short Form Server will be the process where we introduce short form servers that'll run a short and controlled course of time over a period of weeks or months. These servers will serve as a short break from the main staple, that currently being Mirage of Freedom, to avoid burn out of the setting and to allow breaks for the admins + fixing of any prevalent issues with the server, that be script side, economy, or narrative.

Below I attached a poll and the general outline of each.

The winner of this poll will be announced on May 1st

BENEATH THE RED STAR

Set within the summer of 1979 this setting will be an alternative reality to what we currently know. With the Korean War being totally different and instead a total Chinese and North victory over the South and American forces, which lead to a spread of Communism further around the Asian continent. With this other events went different. The Vietnam war, the Berlin Airlift, and Chernobyl itself. To much of the countries upon the fence the West has been looking increasingly incompetent and with the consistent and constant growth of Communist ideals the world begins to grow red.

B.T.R.S takes place within the city of Hoquiam Washington during a nice June summer. With cool temperatures, low breeze, and the bright sun above who wouldn't want to be here as July 4th draws near? With the patriotic town only becoming bolstered as it draws near.
This would last roughly 3-4 weeks.

HALO: Vanguard of Destiny

With the brilliance of the Spartan II program comes the next evolution...The Spartan III's. You are one of these Spartans...Flaws and all.

You are apart of Beta Company. Out by a few years and placing yourself within the late 2540's. You are one of the elite and apart of the prestigious lineage of your company. A small detachment apart of a few teams you are freshly assigned to a new Halcyon-class light cruiser...The Vanguard of Destiny. Freshly constructed and underneath the command of the decorated Captain Karina Vasquez. This fresh car-esque ship is certainly the highest honor amongst the fleet to be assigned too. With fresh new equipment and a highly decorated crew it was practically a light within the dark tunnel...Especially for you.

Much holds itself out for you as you read the new instructions...The Outer Colonies. You and many of your Spartan III brothers and sisters. It almost gives you a glimmer of appreciation of the UNSC and hope for the future of your species...Almost.

The Snow Pirates of E.D.N III. (Lost Planet)

As you walk through your slowly decaying settlement you see a small piece of paper attached to the towns local news board.

Calling all Snow Pirates on E.D.N. III. I have a warning of utmost urgency
The military forces you know as NEVEC are planning something that will be catastrophic for all who dwell on this planet.
I know this because I used to work for NEVEC. I believed in their goal to bring order to this planet.
Now I know that goal was a lie, and their true aims have always been to amass Thermal Energy. That is why I abandoned NEVEC.
Now they are trying to awaken the slumbering Over G Akrid that lies beneath the planet surface, and this will unleash massive amounts of Thermal Energy.
NEVEC will take all this Thermal Energy and then abandon the planet to its fate.
But that is not all.
If NEVEC is not stopped, and we do not prevent the awakening of the Over G, then the sudden and terrible introduction of such large quantities of Thermal Energy will set off a reaction that will freeze this planet to its very core and kill everyone and everything living here.
For the better part of a century, you assumed that any land you had could be lost at any time, and if that happened, you would just start over somewhere else.
But there is nowhere else this time. Our place is here, on this planet.
Our ancestors built a place for themselves here thanks to their indomitable spirit and the strength of their resolve.
Now it is time to tap into that same resolve to protect what they struggled to build.
Let us show NEVEC what happens when they threaten our home.

Shitpost aside, where is the choice of Starship Troopers

Unironically it would probably be one of the easiest settings to pull off with plenty of room for unconventional map choices. Spawn a horde of antlion NPCs, give people vaguely sci-fi looking guns and a few choice addons for models + extras. It would remove a lot of headaches surrounding hour long S2RPs too. Only thing I would say that might be a challenge is for those who do not enjoy milsims (like myself) would have a hard time sticking around outside of blowing things up. And there's also the whole issue of fighting the same enemy 24/7 but I think that could be easily remedied by taking creative liberties with the sci-fi setting like rogue clones, human separatists and outlaws, etc.

"Would you like to know more?"

90% of any Gmod setting involves an invasion what are you guys on about lmfao

All 3 of these are invasion oriented settings

A cake is a cake, but a chocolate cake...
Chances are all 3 of these will be made into servers under us at some point. Regardless of the outcome Lost Planet will 100% happen down the line. Either as the first one we explore or another project.

Mostly because I've been watching and reading and I'm finding it as a cool scenario to explore.

It's a toss up between Lost Planet and Red Dawn for me - my only experience with Lost Planet is SOME of the 1st game, but ALL of the 3rd game, and Red Dawn is always a classic.

But I do think eventually we need to move away from Insurgency vs. State as to not oversaturate ourselves, but, those are my two primo picks.

Plus having a LONG-FORM Lost Planet setting sounds fucking baller, and maybe this SHORT FORM can be a prelude to the chaos. A story that sets off the events of our very own setting.

plus the idea we'll be able to use our own VITASUITS/R.I.G.S is fucking awesome.

Yeah these are share similar stories but that’s mostly due to how easy it would be to properly set them up.

Obviously with future choices we’ll dive deeper into more unique things such as Metro, The Division, Another ZRP SFS, and possibly Terminator if the demand continues to grow for it.

And ofc horror based things like @Wizard and their Wendigo idea, Predator, F13, Alien, and other classic horror genres. The SFS stuff itself will be a continuous release that’ll help us keep burnout from HL:MoF, which was an issue with Virulent that ended up costing us a lot of players in the end.

If you do have suggestions feel free to suggest it too.

Putting this here but the schedule for two SFS stuff is already known:

The first SFS (Likely Red Dawn or Lost Planet) is set for early-mid June that’ll run into July.

The second one (whichever comes second place here) is due to occur in fall so roughly late October or early November.

Expect the SFS server itself to go up soon so I can prep whichever one we plan on doing.

Suggestion: FEAR

Also, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to switch between two different Long-Term servers as well. For example, if we did Metro RP for a few months before switching back to Half Life RP. We could also put a SFS in-between the changes just to spice things up. That way we aren't limited to only having one long term server, since it is hard to get good character development out of SFSs.

The issue is the price. If I were to do that I would be spending well over 200 a month just on server expenses.

I'm sorry for your loss the 2nd game was a life changing experience.

Wouldn't it be possible to just host one server at a time?
The team can discuss the logistics of this. Maybe @Mickee can answer himself since he's the final say.

Though I think it'd be a gamble if we did two servers where either it would either boost playercount with the community generally for those who aren't a fan of one setting they have the other. That or it'd spread the players we already have thin and take away from both settings.

Doing just one at a time would have its own issues because it'd interrupt the momentum of the long form server and put a pause on what anyone there is doing which can cause its own issues. And if they aren't a fan of the current setting in the SFS they're kinda SOL.

So it's kinda a gamble, not to mention as Mickee mentioned the cost. I've started pitching some cash towards the effort but if y'all are interested in having an alternative run at the same time I think that would be our biggest hurdle.
